DTCM move to curb unethical practices in tourism market

In another move to keep the booming tourism industry free from unethical practices to ensure credible and quality experience to visitors, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) called a meeting of senior officials from other government departments to review the ways to curb the activities of illegal tour operators at the Dubai International Airport, Public Beaches and Parks.
The participants were told that the Department of Economic Development stops every illegal operator who distributes brochures to Dubai visitors in coordination with the Dubai Police.
The Dubai Municipality would coordinate with the Department of Economic Development should such practice witnessed at the public parks.
It was informed that the Dubai International Airport would study the issue further with the Dubai Police and the tourism companies on methods of stopping such practices. It was also to dedicate a special area for tour operators to distribute their brochures to the visitors at the airport.
The department has been maintaining a pro-active role in dealing with the tourism industry in order to remove the obstacles and create better growth opportunities.
In the recent past, the department took the initiative of taking up measures to check the sale of counterfeit watches of popular brands in Gold Souq in addition to preventing the local tour operators from taking tourists to specific shops of their own choice.
