Gulf Air scoops top prize at Annual Inflight Sales Person of the Year Awards

At a gala reception in the United Kingdom earlier this week, Gulf Air scooped one of the three main prizes at the Inflight Sales Person of the Year (ISPY) Awards 2004.

Tara Coady, a flight attendant at Gulf Air was named overall winner in the scheduled airlines category. This is the second successive year in which Gulf Air and its duty free concessionaire, Aer Rianta International Middle East/Bahrain Duty Free Shops, have been successful.

The awards, which saw 50 cabin crew representing 30 airlines around the globe vying for honours, were made following three days of intensive workshops, training and assessment for cabin crew at the bmi training centre in London, where the subjects covered included sales awareness, sales techniques, product merchandising and the use of the PA.

Luke Medley, Vice President Services at Gulf Air expressed his delight at the award. "Tara did a fantastic job and everyone at Gulf Air extends their congratulations to her. From an airline perspective this is a further indication of the positive changes that have occurred at Gulf Air over recent years and the quality of our in-flight service teams are among the best in the world."

Tara, who was naturally delighted with the win, thanked the organizers and said: "The training was of an exceptionally high standard and the competition was tough. I feel better equipped to sell the really excellent products we have on board our flights."

The awards have grown in status since their inception in 1999 to become a high-profile event in the duty free industry calendar. The winners are described as "the world's greatest-selling cabin crew".
