The agreement, covering three key areas of Express Mail Service (EMS), parcels and money transfer, comes into effect from Monday, December 20, 2004.
The agreement was signed recently by Mr. Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post, and Mr. Mohammed Ali Murgham, Director General, Yemen Post Authority. This follows an earlier visit to Yemen by Mr. Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director General, Zones, Emirates Post, to finalise the agreement.
'The new agreement with Yemen Post reflects Emirates Post's desire to expand its postal services with a focus on speed, efficiency and technology,' said Mr. Al Daboos. 'Yemen, being a brotherly Arab country, is important to us and we are keen to develop stronger postal links with Yemen with the signing of this agreement. Yemenis living in the UAE as well as business people involved in trade links between the two countries will benefit from our new service.'
As per the agreement, delivery of mail under Express Mail Service to Yemen will take three days from the date of dispatch. The parcel service will allow customers to send parcels to Yemen up to a maximum of 50 kgs. The money transfer services will allow up to Dhs. 10,000 (US$ 2,722) to be transferred through the postal network, with delivery time of seven days.
'The new agreement forms part of Emirates Post's strategy to expand its operations by establishing postal ties with more countries as well as provide all the nationalities living in the UAE with high-standard services that help bridge the distance between them and their home countries,' added Mr. Al Daboos.
