Egyptian Consul General hails ties between UAE and Egypt

The Director General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, received the Mr. Ibrahim Hafiz, the new Consul General of Egypt in Dubai and Northern at the DTCM Head Office today.

The Director General welcomed him and wished him luck on his new appointment affirming DTCM's support in whatever he does.

He also discussed about the tourism and trade industry in general and updated the Consul General about Dubai's progress in this industry at such a rapid pace.

They discussed bi-lateral issues and ways to strengthen relations between Egypt and the UAE in general and Dubai in particular as Egypt was regularly participating in some of the major activities during the Dubai Shopping Festival.
Mr. Sulayem further highlighted the efforts of the department to promote Dubai all over the world and affirmed the importance of tourism between the two countries.

On his part, the Egyptian Consul General hailed Dubai as a well-known destination providing unparalleled services to the visitors. He praised the strong ties shared between the UAE and Egypt in general and with Dubai in particular.

Mr. Hafiz said that Egypt Air, the national carrier of Egypt, has direct flights between Dubai and Cairo, Alexandria and Sharm El Sheikh which has further led to increased tourism between the two countries attracting more tourists from the UAE to Egypt.

The number of visitors from the UAE to Egypt between January to November 2004 numbered 30,000 who spent 556,284 nights, an increase of 28 per cent over the same period last year.

He also said that the UAE investments in Egypt amounted to AED 2.5 billion. The number of UAE companies in Egypt currently numbers 92 with a capital of AED 1.93 billion.

His visit was as part of his visit to all the government departments in Dubai following his recent placement to the emirate.

Meanwhile, the number of Dubai hotel and hotel apartment guests from Egypt saw an increase of 5 per cent in 2003 over the previous year.
