The report, Worldwide Mobile Middleware 2004-2008 Forecast and Analysis (IDC #32212, November 2004), measured iAnywhere's higher revenues and market share—results that placed the company ahead of 13 competitors.

"The vendor picture continues to become clearer with the largest players flexing their muscles and expanding their solutions," said Stephen Drake, program manager, Mobile Infrastructure Software at IDC. "The mobile middleware market is poised for significant growth over the next four years and IDC believes that those leading this market today will play a significant role in this growth."

"Organizations turn to Sybase iAnywhere technologies to help unwire their enterprises and get the right information to the right people at the right time and place," said Terry Stepien, president of iAnywhere Solutions.

"The Middle East Market is the one the fastest growing Mobile Markets in the world, however a great deal of education is needed to enable customer to choose the right technology that will suite their business needs, and our plan is to invest heavily in the region to maintain Sybase worldwide leadership" said, George Khouri, Group Managing Director Sybase Products Middle East. "IDC's report validates the demand we're experiencing for mobile enterprise applications, and we are proud to be recognized as the mobile middleware market leader for the third consecutive year."

IDC reports that the mobile middleware market grew 27.4% or $424.4 million in 2003, up from $333 million in 2002. IDC currently forecasts this market to increase to $1.3 billion in 2008, marking a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.2%. As defined by IDC, mobile middleware and infrastructure software consists of a software platform that includes server and/or client software that extends the reach of existing IP or other mission-critical applications (e.g., groupware, messaging, CRM, SFA, ERP, host, or other applications) or offers the ability to develop new applications for mobile users leveraging a variety of wireless devices, including laptops, handhelds, interactive pagers, mobile phones, and other converged mobile devices. Mobile middleware may include the platform, front-end applications, and development tools as sold in a single offering.
