The British University in Dubai honours scholarship recipients
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, December 20 - 2004 at 13:17
- PRESS RELEASE
Emirates' Chairman, HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, as Chairman of The British University in Dubai (BUiD) recently attended a ceremony and reception to honour the first recipients of the Emirates Group scholarships.
Commenting on the Emirates Group's partnership with BUiD, Sheikh Ahmed said: "The Emirates Group is strongly committed to supporting Dubai's drive to become a Middle East centre for academic excellence. These scholarships provide support and access to students and enable them to make the most of their studies and excel at their academic and research endeavours."
The scholarships are awarded to high achieving, well qualified students who might not otherwise be able to study a Masters programme. For students like Amna Ebrahim Ali Al Obaidly, a UAE national, receiving a full scholarship is a privilege that allows her to pursue her Masters in Education and continue her job as an English Teacher at Al Riffa High School. Moreover, she has the unique opportunity to share what she's learning with her students, which she says is a way of contributing further to their development and giving something back to the community.
Praising the Emirates Group for its commitment to education, David J. Lock, Registrar and Acting Chief Executive, commented: "The generosity of the Emirates Group has enabled well-qualified and well-motivated students to take up places at the University. The calibre of the students is very impressive and they have helped us shape a very strong foundation for BUiD."
The next intake of students will take place in January 2005 and the University is currently accepting applications.
