- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, December 21 - 2004 at 17:18
- PRESS RELEASE
Emirates is the first UAE airline to be accredited by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for its Aviation Security training programmes, run by the Transguard Education Academy.
Sheikh Ahmed said: "Security is an integral part of airline operations today and our training programmes help to reinforce its significance across the region. I am very pleased that the General Civil Aviation Authority has recognised our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for travellers."
Transguard Education Academy, which is run by Emirates Group Security, will now be able to use the GCAA logo on all its certificates, including the Diploma in Aviation Security Management run in conjunction with Edith Cowan University of Perth, Australia.
The GCAA had carried out an assessment of the programmes, which it found to be in full compliance with requirements outlined in ICAO Annex 17 and ICAO Doc. 8973 for safeguarding International Civil Aviation against acts of unlawful interference as well as Civil Aviation Regulations Part VII, of the UAE National Civil Aviation Security Programme.
"The GCAA mission statement is to maintain and further develop safe, secure and efficient civil aviation services in the UAE," commented Mohammed Ghanim Al Ghaith, the Director General of the GCAA. "To this end, we host aviation safety training in the UAE to bring affordable and world-class training to the aviation industry at large.
"Safety and security are the two faces of the same coin. The signing of this agreement will promote the security face in the same-world class manner. We congratulate Emirates and its affiliate, the Transguard Education Academy, on this auspicious occasion which promises to do much to enhance the security of the flying public."
