Since joining Tejari, DTCM has enhanced its procurement activities online, as part of its e-government strategy, mandated by the vision of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defense Minister and DTCM Chairman.

A major milestone in the partnership between DTCM and Tejari was when the former became the first members to issue a tender for insurance services, which drew considerable interest from Tejari's community of more than 3000 trading partners.

"There are three primary areas in which DTCM is deriving value from its Tejari membership. First, our base of suppliers has widened considerably, and DTCM is now creating more favourable trading relationships with more competitive pricing," said Khalid A. bin Sulayem, Director General of DTCM.

"Our department has also witnessed a more than 50% reduction in the time that it takes to complete our purchasing, and third, we've automated procurement, which minimizes our human intervention and stationery costs and reduces operational expenditure," he added.

Increased transparency into DTCM's buying practices has also been a bonus in the organization's dealings with Tejari. "Trading online has enhanced the credibility that DTCM maintains between our suppliers and the government, making procurement a more open and straightforward process for all parties," noted bin Sulayem.

DTCM has outlined a few areas in which it anticipates greater online procurement potential during 2005. The department's decision-makers hope to have the ability to service its advertising promotion and delegation hosting needs while travelling abroad through the Tejari marketplace in due course.

"By ensuring a reduction in costs and an increase in efficiency, we have enabled DTCM to considerably enhance their offering. Their key role in creating additional demand for Destination Dubai is commendable and Tejari is proud to be playing a part in supplementing these tourism efforts," concluded Sultan bin Sulayem, Chairman of Tejari.
