- PRESS RELEASE
Jordan Telecom has announced that it has successfully migrated its IT network infrastructure from ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) technology to Gigabit Ethernet technology in a bid to further enhance the level of performance, security, availability, management and monitoring of the system.
"Jordan Telecom's network is considered one of the most advanced networks in the region, and is being backed up by an state-of-art infrastructure. As the network is considered the backbone of all communication services available in the kingdom we believe that it is a must to upgrade and develop the network accordingly, that enabled us to build world class customer service," said Engineer Rula Ammuri, Chief Information Officer at Jordan Telecom. " Today Jordan Telecom's IT sector is performing according to international standards, demonstrated by Jordan Telecom's ISO certification, and we are working thoroughly to make sure that all our services are delivered to those standards, UBM has enabled us to achieve our goal and migrate our network."
By migrating to Cisco systems Gigabit switches, Jordan Telecom has managed to raise the performance of the network from 155 megabit to 1 Gigabit between its major buildings that form the Jordan Telecom campus and to have full redundant links.
"We believe that the backbone of our success is the success of our customers and it is driven by how we develop and implement services and solutions for them," said UBM's Services Manager Nazem Al-Asasfeh. "Our commitment to our customers drives us to deliver and keep delivering service value at world class standards, working with Jordan Telecom is a great honour for us, as it enables us to share our capabilities, and contribute to the development of the telecommunication sector in Jordan."
Gigabit Ethernet is considered the strategic choice for high-speed, high-bandwidth networks. This five-month project, which was implemented by UBM, included redesigning the Jordan Telecom campus network to comply with Cisco AVVID guidelines, and migrating the major head quarters users to the new Cisco Switching technologies. In addition, the old IP addressing schema was migrated to new IP addresses to comply with the RFC standards. Jordan Telecom has boosted its LAN security and is now ready for the state-of-the-art security technologies delivered by Cisco 6513 Gigabit Switches.
"In network migration projects, the downtime of a client's network is a very critical element, especially when the client is delivering services to his customers" said UBM's Project Manager Muntasir Asa'd.
"By intensive and proper planning, and with the dedication of JT and UBM teams, we have succeeded to achieve almost no network downtime during migration implementation" said JT Project Manager Shaher Al-Sharif.
UBM Jordanian employees shared their know-how with the IT team at Jordan Telecom by providing training courses to the employees in order to enable them manage the network and interact with the migrated network easily.
"The cooperation, the commitment and the team work which we received from UBM have been key factors in the success of this project. The expertise of UBM in migrating networks and their long term relationship with the telecommunication sector and Jordan Telecom has played a key role in depending on a local company to implement this project, and we are looking forward for future cooperation in other projects," said Ammuri.
