New date set for SME International conference and exhibition in Dubai

The Small and Medium Enterprises International Conference and Exhibition being hosted by the Department of Economic Development (DED) will be held from January 31 to February 2, 2005 at the JW Mariott hotel in Dubai.

The announcement from the DED said that the event which was scheduled to be held last month, was postponed due to the sad demise of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The conference and exhibition is being organised by Seagull Exhibitions and Conferences Organising (SECO). Other regional and global partners for the event include World Association for Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME), International Networking for Small and Medium Enterprises (INSME), the Arab Businesswomen's Council and Ashira Entrepreneurial Consultancy.

"This international conference will add great value to the local and regional SME sector by offering a platform for exchange of ideas," said Mr. Khalid Al Kassim, Deputy Director General, DED. "The DED supports this event as part of our continuous commitment to supporting UAE nationals in entering and participating in the business world," he added.

"We hope that this event will be a launch pad for productiveness, manufacturing capability and the creation of a competitive spirit in SMEs, who are striving for excellence and success to attain economic growth," said Mrs. Hessa Al Ossaily, CEO, Seagull Exhibitions and Conferences Organising (SECO). "Interaction with representatives of international SME bodies will enable our regional SMEs to build on their strengths and identify areas of improvement," she added.

Internationally acclaimed speakers are expected to participate at the conference, which will focus on the theme, "An opportunity to build a promising economic vision." The conference is expected to discuss three main subjects which include: 'The effects of small and medium sized enterprises on world economy,' 'Effective utilisation of financial resources and venture capitals' and 'Technology transferring process, joint ventures and B2B deals.' The event is also expected to include a session on success stories of local, regional and international small businesses.
