Pet owners around Dubai warm up for this year's Pedigree and Whiskas Pet Show

  • PRESS RELEASE

This February will once again see the biggest annual event for animal lovers in Dubai, the Pedigree and Whiskas Pet Show.

The show, now in its seventeenth year will take place at the regular venue, Nad Al Sheba Club on the 18th February and is expected to draw a staggering 25,000 people from around the region.

The show, which is free to the public, offers a fun filled family day out for animal lovers and pet owners alike. Last year witnessed dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes congregate to participate in a variety of classes ranging from Pedigree Puppy to Gundog Class. In recent years, and due to public demand, the show has also introduced cats and birds to the event and many breeds and varieties can be found in the respective tents - although it is recommended that dogs don't visit these designated areas!

Whilst the show is invariably a great day out for families and their pets, it also fulfills an important role for several animal charities around the UAE. Proceeds and donations from the day are collected for K9 and Feline Friends which are charities dedicated to providing good homes for deserted animals, ensuring their wellbeing and regularly reuniting lost animals with their owners.

Maya Theodory, Petcare Category Manager Masterfoods commented, "Every year the show attracts an incredible number of pet owners from the region and it's an exceptional day out for the family. However, besides all the fun and games the Pedigree® and Whiskas® Pet Show has a serious undertone, educating residents on the joys of animal companionship whilst encouraging responsible pet ownership. The Pet Show is also a forum to raise money and support for K9 Friends and Feline Friends."

Without a doubt an overriding success for the event is the fabulous police dog demonstration. This year's event which will be held in the Agility Ring will see Police from Dubai, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah compete against one another as they demonstrate the incredible skills and agility of their dogs. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a dog trainer you can also try out your own dog's skills in the public agility course competition.

For those with a less serious agenda many of the favorite classes from previous years will also be available for entry including the Best Fancy Dress class which sees both owner's and pet's unite in creating colorful, entertaining outfits.
