DTCM lines up attractive calendar of events for DSF-2005

As part of its endeavor to make the 10th edition of the trend-setting Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) memorable and entertaining for visitors from across the world, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has lined up a variety of programmes for the DSF-2005 starting from January 12.

Mr. Marwan bin Beyat, DTCM Manager Events and Chairman of DSF Heritage Committee, Mr. Hakam Al Hashmi, Deputy Chairman, DSF Heritage Committee, and Mr. Khalid Ali bin Gharib, Manager Hatta Heritage Village briefed the media about the DTCM Calendar of Events for the DSF-2005.

The Press conference was held at the Sheikh Obaid bin Thani House in Al Shindagha today (January 8, 2005).

Mr. bin Beyat said new programmes have been introduced for the first time this year.

A major highlight will be the Traditional Games of Arab Countries. This event will see the participation of delegations from Algeria, Jordan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen in addition to the UAE.

A total of 18 participants will be taking part in the programme. The visitors will be able to watch craftsmen and Bedouins in action during the competitions to be held every day.

Mr. bin Beyat said the other programmes are Al Furdha, Arabian Horse and Arabian Oryx shows, Exhibition on the Enduring Legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Arabic Calligraphy, Islamic Manuscripts and Weaving Displays.

The other attractions are Exhibition on the History of Postage Stamps of Dubai, UAE Photographers Group Exhibition, Exhibition of Gulf Youth on Fine Arts, and Exhibition on Heritage Guardians.

He said the programmes have been distributed among the venues - Diving Village, Al Shindagah, Heritage Village, Al Owais Centre, Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House, Sheikh Obaid bin Thani House, Deira City Centre, BurJuman Centre, Dubai Museum, Hatta Heritage Village, and Al Ahmadiah School - in order to give opportunity to more people to get entertained during the month-long festival.

Mr. Hakam Al Hashmi, Deputy Chairman of DSF Heritage Committee, said this year's programme will highlight some of the hitherto unknown aspects of the Arabian heritage.
This, he said, will help create better knowledge and understanding among the people of different nationalities about the rich traditions and culture of Arabia.

Mr. Khalid Ali bin Gharib, DTCM Manager Hatta Heritage Village, said a number of programmes, including handicrafts and traditional game shows will be held at the picturesque Hatta Heritage Village every day.

The DTCM-managed heritage sites have been must-see attractions during the DSF since the inception of the trend-setting shopping-cum-entertainment extravaganza.
