- United Arab Emirates: Monday, January 10 - 2005 at 15:43
- PRESS RELEASE
With Dubai being promoted as the City of Gold, the allure for this yellow metal has people in its grip.
This mammoth prize, which entitles each and every purchase of a unique 22 carat, Commemorative Gold Coin to win, is predicted to place Dubai in yet another category of the Guinness Book of World Records for richest gold raffle in the world.
"Dubai being a unique destination that provides some of the world's best events, including the magnificent Dubai Shopping Festival has enabled us to contribute in our unique way. Besides celebrating the 10th anniversary of DSF, the commemorative coin also underlines the Group's commitment to consistently maintain Dubai's reputation as the City of Gold," says Tawheed Abdulla, Chairman of Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group.
"The DGJG, composing of 600 Gold Local Companies and 350 gold shops has seen a multiple of sales in the gold market every DSF over the past nine years. This time we expect to break all previous records with the biggest sales in history. However, I would like to stress that our aim in promoting gold is not about making profits but marketing and manufacturing this coveted metal with the most rigid customer protection regulations," he said.
The coin which has been exclusively designed and minted by PAMP, Switzerland and sold for Dh250 to mark a decade of the world's most popular shopping extravaganza is part of the historical promotion by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG).
The promotion gives people a golden opportunity not only to own the special commemorative coin, but also offers a total winnings of 120 kilos of gold, which includes five kilos of gold every week. Shoppers will also get a chance to win one kilo of solid gold everyday from participating member outlets on the purchase of Dh500 worth of gold or jewellery. In addition, there is a Scratch and Win promotion that allows winning back half the purchased amount.
The move by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group which is keeping up with the increasing demand of the biggest ever gold promotion in the world has greatly been welcomed by local retail gold and jewellery houses. Says Mrs Pearl, marketing manager, DAMAS, "In continuation of the pioneering initiatives taken by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, the DSF Celebration Gold Coin promotion marks another feather in their cap. This biggest ever gold promotion will not only prove beneficial to other gold and jewellery retail outlets, but also to the economy as a whole."
Sunil Kumar Nottah, General Manager, Alukkas Jewellery adds, "The demand for the 22 carat DSF Celebration Gold Coin is truly tremendous. While most are enticed by the chance to win the grand prize of 100 kilos in gold, many consumers simply want to retain a single piece of history that sums up the essence of the Dubai Shopping Festival and all it stands for."
Abdul Rahim Haji, general manager, Al Haseena Jewellery echoes the sentiment, stating, "This DSF Organizing Committee, Dubai Government and DGJG (Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group) initiative should be lauded for its ability to boost the economy in terms of tourism and trade. This truly is a win-win situation - both for the consumers and the retailers."
The first weekly draw for five kilos of gold will be conducted on January 20, with the grand draw for 100 kilos of gold taking place on February 12. People can purchase the celebration gold coin at all DGJG member outlets and also at special DSF kiosks that have been set up at key locations across the city. The one kilo gold draw will be held daily from tomorrow until the end of the festival.
