The Symposium featuring sculpting and painting competitions forms part of the upcoming Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. A total of 70 participants have been selected by a panel of prominent artists including Dr. Najat Makki, Obai Hattoum and Ayoob Al-Balooshi.

The painting competition will be held at the Dubai Marina Promenade and Al Rigga street from January 24 - February 7. Winners stand to win cash prizes totaling USD 90,000.

Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Executive Director, Emaar Properties and Chairman of the Symposium Organising Committee, said: "The Symposium is a celebration of the symbiotic relationship between art and architecture. It has helped give rise to creative and civilised dialogue between different nations, which in turn has helped deepen the dialogue between regional artists and artists from all over the world.

"Emaar's role is not merely to create recognition of distinguished works of art that will raise the profile of the artists as well as provide acknowledgement for Dubai as a fine art destination, but also to create an educational platform to help develop cultural appreciation for the arts and deepen the relationship with society."

Like last year, Emirates Airlines is the official carrier for the Symposium.
