Qatar financial services centre

Qatar is planning to develop a regional financial service centre to rival similar projects in Dubai and Bahrain, according to the Financial Times. Economy minister Sheikh Mohamed Al Thani says that regulation for the centre, which will be modelled on international best practice, has already been approved by the country's rulers. Qatar hopes to approve the first licensees by the middle of the year.
