The exhibition, which has been taking place during the Dubai Shopping Festival for the past 9 years, will be showcasing countless carpet designs from around the world.
Dubai Port Authority and Dubai Customs, organizers of Carpet Oasis, greeted royal visitors, VIPs and other dignitaries who were among those who made their way around the exhibition. Carpet Oasis has posted an increase in exhibition space and in the number of exhibitors - with 40 companies from all corners of the globe showcasing over 10,000 carpets and carpet designs.
Iran, an empire in the carpet industry, has the biggest participation at this year's Carpet Oasis, while Syria is participating for the very first time, marking an increase in regional interest. Dubai Ports Authority and Dubai Customs have also guaranteed strong representation from a number of other countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan, whose presence will be felt this year.
Whereas 10% of the carpets exhibited at Carpet Oasis last year were machine-made, all the carpets at Carpet Oasis 2005 are 100% handmade. Many of the carpets displayed at the exhibition were created especially for the event, and will give visitors the opportunity to view exclusive designs and carpets for the very first time.
Visitors and carpet aficionados will also have a chance to view antique and priceless carpets, some of which go back 250 years, such as a small carpet from Kashan, Iran, which is made from pure silk and costs AED 150,000. A particular carpet from Asfahan, one of the oldest cities in Iran, depicts the rich Iranian history, representing a battle scene between kings.
Another special facet of Carpet Oasis is the display of carpets from Na'eem, a renowned city in carpet production. A distinct astounding carpet, that is unique in size and workmanship, is made of a combination of silk and wool, and is worth a total of 1 million dirhams. In addition to the above exceptional carpets displayed at Carpet Oasis 2005, the exhibition will reveal a three dimensional carpet from Tehran, worth 5 million dirhams.
Carpet Oasis 2005, the leading trade show for the carpet industry in the region, brings together leading buyers, trade visitors and industry professionals and provides a platform for industry leaders to showcase the latest trends in the field.
The 24-day event, which takes place from 12th January- 4th February, will feature a wide range of premier products reflecting the latest trends in the carpet industry, and will offer a whole new world of luxury to carpet enthusiasts.
10th edition of Carpet Oasis gets underway
