The First Annual Canada Week in Dubai, taking place 2-6 February 2005, will be composed of a number of social activities, from the Canadian Business Council's Annual Dinner Dance, Terry Fox charity run, and golf tournament to a desert safari and pancake breakfast on the beach.

The highlight of the week will be a two-game, charity ice hockey challenge between the Dubai Mighty Camels men's ice hockey club and an international team of retired stars from Canada, Russian, Finland, and Sweden.

In addition, the Dubai Sandstorms children's ice hockey club will host a regional tournament with teams participating from Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

'Canadians are proud of their national heritage, and the arts, culture, and sport that binds us together. In Dubai, our community is one of the strongest national groups represented, and we want to celebrate with Dubai residents of all nationalities what makes Canada such a great place,' said Dave Barette, Co-Chairman of the Canada Week in Dubai Committee.

Canada Week will be sponsored by the Canadian Business Council, the Government of Canada, the Dubai Mighty Camels men's ice hockey club, the Dubai Sandstorms children's ice hockey club, and the Club for Canadians. Jebel Ali Hotel Group and Fairmont Dubai Hotel are also sponsors.
