Approximately 21 percent of the population in the Middle East suffers from diabetes and a significant number of these sufferers will develop kidney stones as the disease progresses.

As part of its concerted efforts to combat this side effect and offer instant relief to patients, Hospitech International, a leading medical equipment supplier, will be launching their latest offering in the region, the Storz Medical SLX F2 Lithotripsy Machine, at Arab Health 2005.

The state-of-the-art machine performs lithotripsy, Greek for "stone-crusher", a non-surgical procedure. Regular demonstrations of the equipment will be conducted at Arab Health in order to educate urologists and hospital administrators.

"In the past, surgery was required to remove the stones but lithotripsy has changed all that," said Dr. Naief Khaled, an eminent consultant surgeon in Al Ain, where Hospitech International is headquartered."Patients can now avoid the dangers and long recovery process associated with surgery thanks to this new machine. Lithotripsy is a same-day procedure that requires no cutting, usually lasts only an hour and allows patients to return to their regular lives in a matter of days," he added.
Hospitech International has recently won a number of contracts in the UAE and is now responsible for supplying medical equipment and consumables to a number of organizations, both private and governmental, including the Ministry of Health, the Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS) and leading private hospitals in Dubai and Sharjah.

"Our track record, particularly in the UAE, speaks for itself as we continue to offer innovative, state-of-the-art products and equipment to our customers. We are now ready to replicate this success across the region. Our planned expansion across the Middle East is sure to be given a boost by our participation in Arab Health, an event that gives us the necessary exposure and the opportunity to network and raise our profile with industry professionals from the region and abroad," added Khaled.

Arab Health 2005, the region's leading medical exhibition and conference, reflects the expansion and development of the Middle East healthcare sector as a whole, and is expected to be the single largest exhibition held in the UAE in 2005.
