The contract - which was signed by the two companies in Rome - stipulates that Batelco will provide the leased circuits at a speed of 622 Mgbts per second and further illustrates that Bahrain's national telecommunications company can and does compete with the very best the world has to offer in terms of advanced telecommunications services.

"This agreement highlights the prestigious status that Batelco enjoys among the world's leading telecoms companies and, at the same time, helps us to utilize additional capacity generated by the FLAG Telecom project which links the Kingdom of Bahrain with the rest of the world through fibre cable technology," says Ian Dench, General Manager - Sales & Marketing at Batelco.

"Batelco's investment in world-leading technology - combined with our highly trained and expert workforce - has paid rich dividends by allowing us to meet the increasing demand for high-tech services such as those set out in this agreement," explains Batelco's Chief Executive, Tony Hart.

"Our successful bid for the Telecom Italia business sends a clear message that Batelco stands with the best telecommunications companies in the world in terms of providing products and services that are second to none," continues Tony. "In addition, our success in this project provides us with an important milestone in our stated vision of expanding our dominance beyond the borders of Bahrain to add regional and international clients to our portfolio."
