- United Arab Emirates: Monday, January 17 - 2005 at 15:26
- PRESS RELEASE
The Director General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, held discussions with a high-ranking delegation of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) to discuss the successful hosting of the global body's annual conference in 2007.
Dubai has been selected to host the FIATA-2007 Conference, expected to be attended by 1,500 senior delegates from 90 countries.
Mr. bin Sulayem assured the delegation of strong cooperation and support of DTCM and DCB for the event to be held in Dubai for the second time. He gave instructions to DTCM officials to ensure that the FIATA Conference goes on the list of successful conferences that Dubai hosted in the past.
Mr. Al Seghayer thanked the FIATA for the selection of Dubai as the host city for their international conference. The UAE was selected from among several strong contenders from around the world, including Egypt and Kenya.
The FIATA, which held its Presidency Meeting in Dubai from January 15 to 17, praised the facilities that Dubai offers for the major conferences and exhibitions.
The delegation praised the role of DTCM in promoting Dubai as a distinguished tourist destination and the role of DCB in attracting such big events to the emirate which in turn played an important role in placing the spotlight on Dubai.
The emirate chairs the Zurich-headquartered FIATA for the year 2004 and 2005. Since the establishment of FIATA in 1926, it has been holding annual meetings in different countries with each country allowed to host the conference only once in 10 years.
Dubai, which played host to the conference in 1999, was selected for the record second time as a result of the world-class conference and hospitality facilities it offers.
The conference will discuss issues related to the freight and logistics industry and developments in these fields around the world.
FIATA is a transport-related organization that represents the fastest growing industry involving over 40,000 forwarding companies. FIATA unites the freight forwarding industry worldwide.
