New world-class test and training system launched at ASPIRE
- Qatar: Monday, January 17 - 2005 at 15:43
- PRESS RELEASE
ASPIRE, the Academy for Sports Excellence, today inaugurated its new Test and Training System, a unique computer-based psychological diagnostic program designed to support the Academy's innovative approach to student development.
ASPIRE's Mental Test and Training System deploys a range of different psychological and personality tests, supported by advanced technology, to help identify potential champions and the specific sports disciplines in which they could excel. A dedicated mental training facility at the Academy helps student athletes' develop better stress-resistance, concentration and stronger focus in their sport and academic life.
The System, which experts say is unmatched anywhere in the world, uses advanced technology to measure response time, hand-eye co-ordination and responses to stress and exertion. There are also plans in place to implement a biofeedback system, to monitor students' emotional and physical wellbeing and help chart their progression as athletes.
Prof. Dr. Dieter Hackfort, Dean of ASPIRE's Department of Quality Management, Education and Social Affairs said: "In today's international sport environment, the difference, in physical terms, between elite athletes at the highest level is getting smaller and smaller, mental fitness is what differentiates champions from the rest of the field.
"ASPIRE's Mental Test and Training System is a unique resource to train the champions of the future and ensure that they are fully prepared to compete at the highest levels.
"At ASPIRE we use the most advanced and innovative techniques to discover and train our student athletes, helping to transform them into world-class champions. The Mental Test and Training System marks an important milestone in our progress towards achieving this goal."
Results from the tests will contribute to building a comprehensive profile of the student-athletes' capabilities and mental approach for competition. Data from this advanced program will also help coaches at the Academy to analyze the reasons for variations in athlete performance, measure their mental strengths and weaknesses, and help to improve the performance and stability of all athletes.
