Webb C. Ball was responsible in establishing watch standards and an inspection system that required all watches and clocks used on the railroad to be checked by competent watchmakers. The Railroad Standard Watch, as specified by Ball had, among other specifications to be adjusted with a rating within 30 seconds a week. Ball also specified the style of the numerals in the dial, as well as the design of the hands, resulting in the distinctive appearance of the Ball dial. It was Ball's system that led to accuracy and uniformity in timekeeping, and established railroad time and railroad watches as the standard for precision timekeeping.
Ball's accomplishments reached international acclaim, not only for his civic contributions, but he was also honored for his role in the history of horology. Today, Ball is one of the most recognized watch brand in America. Ball continues to update its range to keep pace with shifting consumer patterns.
But despite the changes in appearance, the founding spirit of the brand - the industrial function - is never compromised. The Ball Watch Co. is the acknowledged longest-lived seller of railroad marked watches having done so from 1891 to present.
Ball Watch Brand Statement: "Since 1891, accuracy under adverse conditions"
Webb C. Ball spent a good part of their time helping to design a timepiece that fulfilled the requirements for an accurate watch, one that would stand the rigors of the rough handling and dirt that were inherent in the railroad industry. Ball Watch Company is focused to build superior watches that endure adverse conditions such as night reading function, anti-magnetic, and anti-shock features.
At Ball Watch Company, they respect the powerful allure of adventure and appreciate these fine men and women explorers who helped define their world according to their mission. Ball watches have climbed the highest peaks of the world - with Jim Whitaker, the first American to scale Mount Everest. He wore a Ball watch on his conquest. The Ball watch has also traveled to the coldest, windiest, driest, most remote region of the world - Antarctica. Richard Limeburner, South Pole current explorer was assisted by a ball watch while he researched the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. Indeed, Ball Watch is focused to build the mightiest, superior watches that endure adverse conditions.
