Bin Sulayem holds discussions with the American Consul General

The Director General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, today (January 18) held discussions with the US Consul General, Mr. Jason L Davis, on a wide range of bi-lateral issues and two-way growth opportunities.

Mr. Jason, who assumed charge of the US Consulate General in Dubai in June 2003, briefed Mr. bin Sulayem about the developments in the US and his country's keenness to better its relations with the Arab countries.

The meeting was held at the DTCM Head Office. Mr. bin Sulayem enlightened the VIP about the latest infrastructure projects and the government's committee to make Dubai the world's leading business and leisure destination. He also briefed the envoy about the major highlights of the DSF-2005 and other governmental initiatives.

The launch of direct flights between Dubai and US by the Emirates Airline has helped increase the number of American visitors. The DTCM operates an Overseas Representation office in New York to tap the US and other neighboring countries.

Dubai has been registering year-on-year growth in the American hotel guests. In the year 2003, there was a 32 per cent increase in the US hotel guests in Dubai compared with the previous year.

The highest growth in the US hotel guests in Dubai was in 1998 when it stood at 57.1 %. The number of US passengers using the Dubai airport also recorded 58 % growth in 2003 compared with the previous year.
