- PRESS RELEASE
Starting next month MBC2 is set to become the world's first free premium movie channel broadcasting international Hollywood blockbuster films 24 hours a day.
The announcement that MBC2 is to become a non-stop movie channel coincided with the channel's second birthday.
Explaining the change in direction from a general entertainment channel offering selected movie premieres, Mohammed Al-Mulhem, MBC Group director of marketing, said: "Viewer research showed that MBC2 viewers connected most passionately with the premium movies that were available on MBC2 for free.
"The channel currently delivers an audience in excess of 30 million and, with a market potential of 100 million viewers, the scope for development of a free, premium movie channel is huge." MBC is forecasting an audience of 40 million viewers for the new-look MBC2.
Film fans are spoilt for choice on MBC2 throughout the week with a premiere every Monday evening, a thriller on Tuesdays, an Action movie on Wednesdays, a romance on Thursdays, a comedy cracker on Fridays, a wild movie on Saturdays and a double bill featuring a leading Hollywood star on Sundays.
