Rich in scenic splendour and cultural treasures, the kingdom has long exerted a pull on the imagination of tourists from all parts of the world. The 750 sq meters Nepal pavilion at the Global Village looks like one of the ancient quarter of the country. It mirrors all the hues of its beautiful countryside, giving visitors an authentic feel of the place.

There are almost 30 stalls in the Nepal Pavilion, all participants are from Nepal and they are thrilled to be able to bring their goods for the world to see and appreciate. Thirty years old Nepalese Dorje Seupa holds a stall at the Pavillion, he says, "My country has one of the best handicrafts in carpets, painting and wood. Most of my customers are European. I sell hand-paintings, wood boxes, carpets made of pure wool in natural colours. These carpets come with a life-time guarantee and range between Dhs 40 and Dhs1700."

Aasha Lama is also content being part of such a huge international event. She is selling Momos, a healthy traditional dish cooked over steam at her stall. The dish is filled with meat, chicken or vegetables and is priced at Dh10 per serving.

Selling all hand-made, handicraft accessories like Nepalese cultural dolls, slippers, and bags handcrafted from corn-husk is Loxmiaa Nakarmi. Her goods have been well accepted and she is elated to get such a lovely platform to display her talent. "The favourite among visitors is the Nepalese paper designed with dry flowers. My goods are priced between Dhs5 and Dh200.

Similarly 31 years old, Sristi Malla is also marketing her products at the pavilion.
"I have made all these products myself. It started out as a hobby but after studying business in USA, I decided to make a business of it. I have with me sequins & beadwork like anklets, candleholders, glass covers, mobile covers, necklace, specs holders, bracelets, coaster, flowers, mobile stands, placemats, and tissue covers. There is also some stained glass & glass painting on bookends, dividers, fire screens, lamps, napkin holders, sun catchers, wind chimes, clocks, doors, frames, mirrors, panels, tables, and windows. Most of my customers are Indians and Arabs, they are especially fond of the
decorative candles both aromatic and gel.

The pavilion has been put up for the first time this year and it has received a very good response from the visitors. Produce on offer range from typical traditional silver jewellery like ring, brooch, bracelet, pendant, earring to semiprecious stones like coral, rubies, turquoise, and garnet. Also available at the stalls is a plethora of knick knacks like bags, bracelet, earrings, beads-necklace, pearl necklace, crystal necklace, silver pot, silk box, bead bangles, bead bed, doll, pashmina shawls and bead purses.

The Global Village has something to offer for everyone; its Dubai's very own celebration of the diversity and similarity among peoples of the world. It has come to us this year with a new logo, a new identity and at a new location with six entrances and exits and a 15,000 capacity car park to ensure easy flow of traffic.

Special families only and ladies only days have been chalked out in the week. And the icing on the cake is that unlike previous festivals, this year the Global Village will be open up to March 31, long after DSF 2005 closes on February 12.
