The server was launched on December 1 2004 and by the next day it achieved the phenomenal result of 18,500 MMB3 users. This means that the PRIMERGY BX620 S2 can handle 23% more users than highest competition published results.

The measured configuration comprises a PRIMERGY BX600 blade server system with five PRIMERGY BX620 S2 dual server blades. Four of the server blades formed a 3+1 cluster and the other acted as an Active Directory server. All the server blades were each equipped with two Intel Xeon 3.6 GHz processors, 4 GB of memory and two 36 GB SCSI hard disks for the operating system. Three FibreCAT CX500 with a total of 456 38-GB hard disks were used as the storage subsystem for Exchange data.

"As an enterprise performance booster, the PRIMERGY server has remained at the forefront for quite some time, delivering unparalleled flexibility to cope with unexpected challenges, with reduced budgets," said Ashraf El-Arabaty, Product Marketing Manager Enterprise Products, MENA, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "The new benchmark established by our PRIMERGY BX620 S2 servers demonstrates just one aspect of the immense capabilities of our range of servers. We are positive this recognition will prompt enterprises in the Middle East to implement PRIMERGY solutions for their complex business needs."

The MAPI Messaging Benchmark (MMB3) was developed by Microsoft to enable a performance comparison of server systems across vendors using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. Using the MMB3 user profile, the benchmark measures throughput during an eight-hour working day on the basis of a defined user profile that represents the mail traffic of a typical e-mail user, and comprises everyday mail activities such as sending, searching, reading, forwarding, as well as scheduling or the use of distribution lists.

FSC's PRIMERGY S2 rack and tower servers offer IT managers greater flexibility and performance for their server farms, while ensuring 'peace of mind' by protecting application investment and providing easier server management. FSC was among the first vendors to offer Intel's Xeon dual processor technology with Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T), providing the versatility to run 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

The innovative air-flow cooling technology 'cool-safe' helps to extend the life-span of servers, even in the highest density server racks and the products integrate a range of management tools to simplify the IT manager's tasks. A distinctive feature of the new servers is the hot-plug functionality. The S2 servers also facilitate smooth transition to 64-bit computing, a must in today's technology-purchase decisions.
