- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, January 22 - 2005 at 14:42
- PRESS RELEASE
The first group of 11 government employees to successfully complete e-Employee's Information Technology training course received their certificates at a graduation ceremony held recently in Dubai sponsored by Cisco Systems and the National Bank of Dubai (NBD).
Addressing the graduation ceremony, Mahmood Al Bastaki, Business Process Re-engineering Consultant, Dubai eGovernment, expressed confidence that the successful candidates would be able to improve their performance at the workplace as a result of systematic teaching of IT concepts.
"As part of a larger objective of Dubai eGovernment to raise awareness of IT across the public sector, eEmployee is a programme that has been devised after taking into consideration the basic requirements for government employees to deliver eServices," said Al Bastaki.
"People's expectations today are very high and it is therefore extremely important for government employees to understand all the concepts associated with eServices. A training programme such as eEmployee is therefore a 'must' in order to ensure that all employees are given the basic training needed for delivering electronic services."
The employees who were awarded certificates at the graduation ceremony, were Mohammed Abdul Aziz Al Omar, Tariq Ahmad Naqbi, Khalid Ahmad Al Ameri, Ahmad Abdulla AlAttar, Ahmad Abdulrahman Al Zarooni, Shuaib Ali Ahli, Hilal Khalifa Al Kharusi, Abdulla Mohamed Al Ali and Waleed Hassan Al Hosany who came from the Department of Justice and received their training at Sites Power.
Among the graduates were Ali Ahmad Al Marzuqi from Al Awqaf & Islamic Affairs Department who received his training at New Horizons and Salem Al Nuami from Dubai Civil Defence who took the courses at International Learning Solutions.
The eEmployee programme was conducted by Dubai eGovernment in collaboration with three leading training centres.
"While some of the systems are in place and the public is fast getting used to using electronic services, the challenge is to ensure that government departments are fully geared to support the system by providing the necessary inputs using uniform procedures.
Therefore, the eEmployee programme is set to play a crucial role in enhancing the IT competency of government employees," said Al Bastaki.
Mohammed Ali Al Nuaimi, Secretary of the Board of Directors, National Bank of Dubai said, "eEmployee is a Dubai eGovernment initiative designed to provide IT skills to government employees to help them keep up with the latest technological trends in order to offer better services to the society. Dubai eGovernment is a part of H.H Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision and it compliments Dubai government's efforts to transform this vision into reality."
"NBD's sponsorship of this graduation ceremony reflects our commitment to facilitate and support all programs that will help improve eServices and strengthen Dubai's position as a model eSociety," added Al Nuaimi.
As part of its support for Dubai eGovernment's initiative, Cisco Systems sponsored the ceremony and provided the graduates with a Linksys Wireless ADSL Gateway system for their homes.
"We are honoured to take part in this ceremony and to reward these employees' hard work by providing this cutting-edge device. They will be able to use this wireless broadband equipment to conveniently access the Internet and e-Government services from home, thereby joining a growing trend in the UAE to match the rapid adoption of wireless broadband that is embraced globally," said Ghazi Atallah, General Manager Cisco Systems Middle East. "By offering convenience, mobility and increased productivity at home and office, wireless broadband helps people use the Internet to increase productivity at the office, enhance learning at school and have more fun at home."
The topics covered in the eEmployee programme include an introduction to key IT concepts, practical use of IT solutions and file management, Word processing, Spreadsheets and e-learning solutions.
Each employee received an eEmployee certificate from Dubai eGovernment and an ICDL START certification, the internationally recognized computer proficiency standard.
Each programme is delivered in four modules, in English and Arabic, involving 48 hours of learning. Dubai eGovernment has partnered with technology institutes of higher learning to conduct examinations in eEmployee certification.
A dedicated portal (www.eemployee.ae) enables government employees to register and complete the course. Trainees have the option of completing the eEmployee programme either online or through classroom training at designated training centres.
