ABANA President Dr. Hani K. Findakly announced that the association's board of directors has formed a disaster relief fund in response to the crisis. The Arab Bankers Association of North America Disaster Relief Fund "is designed to aid the families of the victims, particularly the firemen, policemen and other disadvantaged individuals who lost their lives in this tragedy," said Dr. Findakly. "It will be distributed in coordination with other relief efforts throughout New York."
The fund has already received over $30,000 in pledges from Arab Banking Corporation, Capital Trust, Covington & Burling, Occidental Petroleum, United Gulf Management and others, and we invite all of our colleagues in the financial industry to join us in this worthy effort. Details on contributing to the fund are available at www.arabbankers.org.
With deep respect and sympathy for all of those touched by last week's events, the ABANA Board of Directors has also chosen to postpone the association's October 4th Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner honoring Dr. Abdullah El-Kuwaiz and Mr. Abdul Majeed Shoman to a suitable future date.
