IP is a common global standard for transmitting information electronically. It allows data, voice and multimedia to be transmitted very efficiently over the same network and at significantly lower cost than over conventional networks. IP-based services allow companies to be competitive in a tough and challenging market. By the end of 2006, 87 percent of airlines expect the majority of their systems to be IP-enabled.
'When picking our IP solution, we wanted the latest technology, improved performance, security and reliability,' said Mr. Anil Sumessar, LAN/WAN Administrator, West Indies Airways. 'We chose SITA because they have a unique understanding of our business, and significant experience implementing and managing migration from legacy systems to IP-based solutions. Not only did the SITA Professional Service team provide excellent migration support, they also reduced the overall cost of the project.'
One of SITA SC's main objectives is to support the industry in its migration from expensive, complex legacy systems, to more cost effective, state of the art IP-based solutions.
