Emirates Post's incoming mail volumes broke all-time record on Monday, January 24
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, January 26 - 2005 at 11:24
- PRESS RELEASE
Emirates Post broke an all-time record in incoming domestic and international mail by handling 1,850,911 pieces of mail on a single day on Monday, January 24, against the daily year-round average of around 500,000 pieces.
"Over the past few months, Emirates Post has been handling increasing mail volumes as a result of accelerated business activity. The highest volume of incoming mail recorded on January 24 endorses UAE's position as an important business and tourism hub and demonstrates Emirates Post's ability to handle such huge volumes," said Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post. "This also indicates that Emirates Post has continued to register an increase in mail volumes, against the global trend of declining lettermail volumes."
"It is a great achievement for Emirates Post to handle such a large volume of mail on a single day," said Mr. Abdullah Juma Kalandar, Acting Director Exchange Centres, Emirates Post. "It demonstrates the efficacy of the state of the art systems in place at the Ramool Sorting Centre."
The all-time high volumes also reflect the overall upbeat mail scenario at Emirates Post since last year. Daily lettermail volumes were on the rise from the beginning of 2004. On January 13, 2004, the daily mail uptake was 734,737 pieces. On February 4, it was as high as 1.09 million, before reaching the all-time peak on July 17, 2004 - 1,112,458 pieces, the highest record for any summer.
The January 24 mail figures even surpassed the Christmas-time mail volumes, which are usually the highest every year.
