- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, January 29 - 2005 at 10:02
- PRESS RELEASE
Amidst praise and applause, Dubai's first ever Wellbeing festival closed on Friday.
The Wellbeing Show provided a focal point for all those involved and interested in complementary health, spas and wellness centres. During the three day programme over 4,000 visitors toured the exhibition with more than 2,300 attending seminars and workshops. The programme consisted of 133 events presented by 62 experts drawn from over 15 countries. Ms Kern says that this is just a start. "We've learnt so much and look forward to producing an even more robust Wellbeing festival in 2006."
The UAE Ministry of Health endorsed the Wellbeing Show, opened by the Minister, HE Hamad Abdulrahman Al Madfa. He commented that the show was a great thing for the UAE because it recognised the importance of the emerging complementary healthcare sector. The ministry were active supporters of the festival and took part in a lively forum debating the role of complementary medicine in the UAE. The session was jointly chaired by Dr Sassan Behjat co-ordinator of complementary and alternative medicines at the Ministry of Health, and Ms Teresa Hale, international patron of the event.
Book signings were a massive draw at the show as many of the key speakers are best selling authors. Hundreds queued to get Deepak Chopra to sign copies of his latest book, Secrets, and Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin, proved equally popular.
The Dubai Drummers added excitement and happiness to the event with their regular presentation of drumming for peace. After opening the show, three daily sets were performed featuring African drummers, Blessings and Humphrey from Malawi. Over 100 people took part in every session, with parents and children making it a truly family event. Ms Kern said "this is exactly what we wanted to achieve, to provide something for everybody in the show."
Jumeirah International were delighted that the organisers chose Jumeirah Beach Hotel Conference Centre as the venue to host the region's first Wellbeing Show. This was an ideal opportunity to showcase Jumeirah International's wide variety of spas and health clubs. Exhibitor Anne Cook, Managing Director of The Healing Zone said the show was fabulous. "I am very glad someone put it all together because an exhibition like this has been very long overdue and it raises the profile for people working in this industry."
It's clear that the organisers went to great lengths to secure the best experts in the world and to put together an informative and entertaining programme, not just making it the most significant mind-body event in the Middle East, but exceeding comparable events in Australia, the US and the UK.
