In preparation for the Dubai Opera Ball, a glittering occasion to be held at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai on Thursday 17 February 2005, the choreographer of the debutantes' waltzes, Mr Alexander Hysek will be arriving in Dubai prior to the ball to offer waltz classes to those attending so that their footwork will be as dazzling as the occasion itself.

Following in his father's footsteps Mr Hysek is a dance instructor at Austria's famous Elmayer Dance School and subsequently took over his father's mantle selecting the debutantes who open the Vienna Opera Ball. Not only does Hysek teach dance, he also instructs students in the strict code of etiquette every young Austrian learns in preparation for their coming out into society: how to greet someone, how to behave etc. Furthermore Mr Hysek has performed the duties of Master of Ceremonies at the Vienna Strauss Gala in Chicago, and the Viennese Opera Ball at in New York City.

Commenting on the training required, Mr Hysek said, 'I firmly believe that anyone who takes a series of waltzing classes under my tutelage will be able to perform as well as any of the debutantes on the night of the ball'. He continued, 'My pupils are often surprised at how quickly they become adept, and more importantly how much they enjoy it as well as the boost to their confidence levels'.

Mr Hysek will be offering a waltz class on Sunday 13 February at the Mina A'Salam Quai Club at 19.30 for 50 minutes. Anyone wishing to book, should contact Dubai Opera Ball organisers, tel 04 355 0714.

Background to the Vienna Opera Ball
In January 1935, the first ball to be known as the Vienna Opera Ball was celebrated at the Opera House in Vienna. It surpassed anything the house had seen before. Despite a hiatus during the Second World War, the tradition resumed in 1956 and once again captivated international society. The very words, 'Vienna Opera Ball' conjure an image of one of the most glittering and romantic events on the international society calendar. Kings, statesmen, politicians, industrialists and countless famous artists have already fulfilled their dreams of taking part in this unique event: The Duchess of York, and actresses Sophia Loren and Minnie Driver to name just a few.

After Vienna and New York, Dubai will be the third official venue to host this sumptuous event. Organised as a charity event, it will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, with proceeds going to the Tsunami Victims' Fund.

Under the patronage of the Austrian Federal President, it strictly follows tradition. The festive entrance of the young gentlemen with their debutantes into the splendidly decorated ballroom, the strains of the Polonaise, the opening ballet, the dance of young couples and finally the first waltz, when the elegant guests make their way to the dance floor, evoke a world of glamour which entrances audiences worldwide.
