U.S. Robotics extends wireless networks without adding electrical sockets

  • PRESS RELEASE

U.S. Robotics, the leading provider of Internet and connectivity solutions, has reaffirmed its commitment to enhanced wireless networking solutions for the larger-scale business environment by enabling its wireless Access Points to be placed up to 100 metres away from the nearest electric socket.

The new USR 5446 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Kit extends wireless networks and improves wireless coverage without the cost of additional electrical outlets.

The PoE Kit uses a Cat 5 Ethernet cable to carry both data signals and electrical power allowing wireless connectivity in more challenging environments such as larger buildings, historical buildings, buildings with thick concrete walls, warehouses and where an outside electrical socket is just not feasible. No special cabling or installation of additional electrical sockets is required.

"Buildings and warehouses don't always have power points where you want them, but now you don't have to pay for qualified electricians to install new sockets in order to implement an effective wireless network throughout your business environment - even to outside areas," explains Yusuf Syed, Regional Manager Middle East, U.S. Robotics. "Keeping in view the high levels of wireless networking adoption in the Middle East, the USR 5446 will ease implementation of such networks. The PoE kit will also provide an incomparable combination of high performance and value for money."

There are considerable benefits to a wireless network in a business environment. All areas of a company, whether an external courtyard, warehousing, meeting room or office space can have access to the company's computer network and the Internet via mobile laptops connected on a wireless network. The U.S. Robotics PoE Kit provides power to an access point using a data cable to provide optimal wireless coverage, even if that location might be in a difficult to reach area with no electrical power socket.

U.S. Robotics' Power over Ethernet Kit includes two primary components: a Power Injector (that merges the electrical power and data traffic onto the Ethernet cable) and a Power Splitter (that separates power and data at the access point). The system is easy to install and no software is needed. Simply plug in the Injector, connect to the Ethernet cable and plug in the Splitter. It is compatible with all wireless speeds supported by associated access points.

The USR 5446 Power over Ethernet Kit is now available from all retail outlets like Quality Computers, ABC, Plug In Electronix, Etech, CompuME, Jarrir Bookstore.
