Prominent Arabic calligraphers from the Arab and Islamic world were also present.

The exhibition has been organised for the second successive year. The exhibition, being held until February 10, has been organized by the department in cooperation with Istanbul-based Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), the cultural arm of the 15-member Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC).

The 'Dubai International Exhibition on the Art of Arabic Calligraphy' is showcasing the works of 25 prize-winning contemporary calligraphers from eight Arab and Islamic countries - Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Iraq and Iran in addition to the UAE.

Mr. bin Sulayem said: "Based on last year's success, the DTCM has once again organized this exhibition. Last year, the event attracted overwhelming interest by a large number of intellectuals and the general public who were interested in this art."

Arabic calligraphy is one of the most respected art forms and the exhibition provides a perfect platform for learning about the entire spectrum of Arabic calligraphy.

The department has organized a host of activities including a special exhibition for talented UAE National Calligraphers as part of the department's endeavor to motivate and encourage them.

Mr. bin Beyat said 40 % of the works on display has already been sold out, reflecting the uniqueness of the show.

There is also a section selling calligraphy works and workshops where lessons would be given to visitors on the art of Arabic calligraphy.

In addition, there will be lecture and display sessions with prominent experts and calligraphers during the exhibition besides a display of materials used in calligraphy like special paper, reed and brush pens and inkpots.

The department has also organized a special Majlis for calligraphers where they will meet students and others interested in knowing more about this art. They will provide you the highlights of the exhibition - and everything you want to know about the Arabic calligraphy.

The exhibition will also have workshops where the art of calligraphy will be taught step by step in addition to the art of making special paper for calligraphy works.

The Art of Arabic Calligraphy exhibition will be open to the public from 5 pm to 10 pm daily.
