This came in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two cities following two days of talks between government officials from both cities and top company executives, businessmen and investors from the German City who were on a two-day visit to the emirate.

Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and Petra Roth, Mayor of Frankfurt, signed the MoU on Wednesday at the Municipality headquarters.

Sultan said the letter would be the first step towards establishing closer relations between the two cities and he hoped that this would finally lead to a full-fledged twinning agreement between them.

"Today, as we sign this MoU, I am hopeful that this would enhance our relations in a way that is mutually beneficial to both our cities," said Sultan.

Roth said the MoU would initially involve exchange of visits by students, tourists and businessmen in order to have a people-people relation in every field. Both Dubai and Frankfurt have several things in common, that can be further explored and effectively applied in enhancing the existing relations.

She noted that her accompanying delegation who included CEOs of top companies, financiers and businessmen in Frankfurt, had known Dubai from very close and had held discussions with top officials and businessmen in Dubai.

"I hope that a similar delegation from Dubai would soon visit Frankfurt and would get to know the city from close. This would facilitate further exchange of investments and trade between the two cities," she said.

Roth hailed the good hospitality meted out to his team by Dubai and noted that the city has witnessed tremendous progress over the past years thanks to a dynamic leadership.

The talks and the signing ceremony were attended by senior officials from both Dubai Municipality and Frankfurt.
