DED launches dedicated newsletter for SME owners

The Business Sector Development Division at the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) has launched a quarterly newsletter dedicated to addressing the issues of small and medium enterprise owners in Dubai.
Mr. Fareed Al Abdulla, Executive Supervisor, Business Sector Development Division, Department of Economic Development (DED) said: "The Department has always been committed to creating an ideal climate for the growth and development of SMEs with a special focus on national entrepreneurs. With this sector comprising over 94.3 per cent of economic activities in the country, it is essential to provide all possible support to boost the performance of the sector, as this will eventually reflect on the growth of the economy."
"The establishment and efficient working of a small business offers a variety of challenges for the entrepreneur that are generated by the nature and structure of the local economy in general and the industrial sector in particular," said Al Abdulla. "The DED provides institutional support and guidance via a series of dedicated workshops, training programmes and seminars directed solely to small and medium sized enterprises. In addition, this newsletter will provide a networking platform where entrepreneurs can share their business experiences with each other," he added.
'Al Masharia' Al Sagheerah' contains articles and features about the entire market environment with a special focus on the problems faced by SMEs. It also suggests several solutions to the crucial challenges faced by new SME owners by featuring case studies and sharing best practices from successful entrepreneurs.
It also features detailed steps about the various aspects of establishing and managing an SME in Dubai including methods for pricing to enable small and medium sized enterprises meet market performance and enhancing the quality of their customer services.

The Department of Economic Development (DED) was established in March 1992, with the objective to organise, regulate and boost trade and industry within the Emirate of Dubai. The DED has moulded its mission of building a futuristic establishment, in accordance with the vision of the Government of Dubai and in the light of globalisation and the requirements of a digital economy. One of its key functions is to encourage local and foreign investments in commercial and industrial projects, and create the appropriate environment for investors.
The DED's other functions comprise a wide range of regulatory activities including the preparation and maintenance of a commercial register and the supervision of all organisations. The DED is responsible for regulating the affairs of commercial agents and brokers and commercial advertising offices, in addition to overseeing and controlling the insurance industry in the Emirate. Examining the participation of the government in the private sector and representing the government in companies where it has a stake, also comes under the purview of the DED.
