Economic Development Board meets with Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry Labor Committee in ongoing reform dialogue

The Economic Development Board received a delegation from the BCCI that comprise the members of a committee that has been set up by the Chamber to study the labor market reform initiative.

The meeting was held to discuss preliminary comments and concerns that are being put forth by BCCI regarding the policy proposal recommended by EDB.

The delegation asked questions regarding policy-making, institutional framework, proposed labor fees and the implementation timeline. Members of the EDB labor steering committee were present to clarify issues related to these topics, and to explain the continued incorporation of stakeholder feedback in the refining of the details of the policy proposal.

The meeting was held as part of the national dialogue which is based on public-private partnership and collaborative efforts to further Bahrain's economic development.

The delegation was also briefed on the approach of the economic reform initiative which is currently being undertaken, namely the Bahrain-wide Investors Survey which is being conducted under the auspices of EDB and BCCI.

The delegation expressed its general support for the labor reform initiative, and lauded the reiterative and transparent approach adopted by EDB in engaging the relevant stakeholders to ensure that comprehensive feedback is obtained.
