Sheikh Hamdan approves drainage projects worth Dhs21.5 million

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry and Chairman of Dubai Municipality, has approved four drainage projects worth Dhs21.5 million that will help enhance the drainage and irrigation net-work of the emirate and dispose the waste water safely.

This was announced by Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, who noted the municipality is currently implementing a five-year strategic plan with the objective of setting up drainage and storm water networks covering all urban areas of Dubai city.

"The new drainage projects will help the emirate cope with its growing needs for drainage and sewage networks thereby ensuring a safe disposal of the waste water and its treatment for using in irrigating the city's greenery. These projects will meet our existing and future demands," said Mr. Sultan.

He added that the new projects, approved by Sheikh Hamdan, include a Dhs11.64 million project for the construction and statutory maintenance of minor and hard landscaping works and irrigation works for small areas and making irrigation water supply connections throughout the Emirate of Dubai. The project is expected to be completed within one year.

The second project, approved by the Dubai Municipality chairman, is a Dhs3.7 million consultation study for setting up pumping station X1 and new rising mains from the pumping station to the new Jebel Ali Sewage Treatment Plant. The project is expected to be completed by February 2008.

A Dhs3.25 million consultation study has also been approved by Sheikh Hamdan for setting up Sewage Pumping Station (S) and associated rising mains from the pumping station to the new Jebel Ali Sewage Treatment Plant. The project is expected to be ready by early 2008.

The Municipality Chairman also approved a Dhs2.9 million consultation study for upgrading the existing main pumping station (H1) to serve the catchment area and to provide its new rising mains to pumping station (X1) or direct to the proposed Jebel Ali Sewage Treatment Plant.
