Acer, which is keen to replicate the phenomenal year-on-year growth it has achieved in its notebook and desktop PC divisions, will aggressively target SMBs that need enterprise level server solutions to manage their information, but at a price they can afford.

The server market in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region posted double-digit growth during 2004, and analysts expect the market to remain buoyant during 2005. Senior Acer executives are confident of securing more market share in this sector over the coming 12 months.

"Businesses in this region demand servers that are technically advanced and cost-effective," said Andrew Lamb, business development manager servers and storage, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd. "Acer has the solutions in place to meet the needs of those customers, and our reputation in the notebook and desktop sector is evidence that we can deliver the latest technology at an affordable price."

Supporting future business growth of SMBs in the Middle East, Acer has launched the Altos G520, an entry-level dual processor server. It delivers superb performance via dual Intel Xeon processors with Extended Memory 64 technology and Hyper-Threading technology support. It also carries one PCI Express slot and four other PCI slots to support a wide range of add-on cards for greater expandability and additional functionalities.

The Altos G520 also comes with an Acer EasyBUILD interface that makes the task of installing your choice of operating system quick and easy. It is also bundled with Acer Server Manager, making it simple to maintain.

For enterprise users who want a powerful, high-density rack-optimised server, the Altos R710 also packs two Intel Xeon processors, up to 12 GB DDR2 400 memory and almost a terabyte of storage, into a slim chassis that will slot into any Altos rack.

The server is targeted at organizations that require a high return per rack, which include banks, government departments, and online game providers.

"This range of servers will compliment both SMBs and enterprise customers in the Middle East," said Lamb. "We are bringing the freshest technologies to the market which are designed for maximum dependability, scalability and easy management."
