Faldo made his first formal site visit to the club today to further the design planning.
'Having been to Dubai many times and having played in the Dubai Desert Classic several times, this is a golf club I know very well and respect very much,' said Faldo 'Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Golf and his Dubai Golf team are committed to taking the Wadi Course and all of the practice facilities at the club to a much higher level, and we are honored to be given the opportunity to turn their incredible vision into reality.'
'Nick needs no introduction to the golfing public, and his golf course design credentials are very highly regarded,' said Rod Bogg, Managing Director of Dubai Golf, the management company that owns and operates Emirates Golf Club. 'We have been considering for some time the idea of consolidating the aesthetics and playability of both nines on the Wadi Course and to integrate a new residential golf development as part of the program. Having considered all our options, we believe that Nick - together with IMG Design - are by far the best golf course design solution for us. We have a splendid plan in place, and we look forward to starting construction in the next few months with a view to having what will essentially be a new golf course ready for play in the fall of 2006.'
'We have all the ingredients to introduce an exceptional golf experience' said Faldo. 'The Wadi Course has some great corridors, excellent vegetation, a unique wadi theme, gentle topography, and perhaps most importantly, an owner who wants nothing but the best. We have identified a number of excellent opportunities that will make for 18 invigorating golf holes that the members and guests of Emirates will really enjoy playing. As we confirmed today on-site, my focus for the Wadi Course will be strategy, dramatic bunkering and challenging greens complexes.'

His golf course design portfolio is impressive, as witnessed by Golf Digest's awarding Faldo Design, together with Brit Stenson of IMG Design, the 2004 'Best New Course in Canada' award for The Rock in Lake Rosseau, Ontario. Faldo Design has completed or has world-class golf courses underway ranging from Australia to China, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, England, Ireland, Germany, the United States and Canada.Emirates Golf Club is the Middle East's most prestigious golf club and is most famously known for regularly hosting the Dubai Desert Classic, arguably the most popular PGA European Tour event amongst the players. Opened in 1988, Emirates comprises 36 holes of world-class golf, extensive practice facilities, a range of country club amenities, an internationally-recognized Bedouin tent-inspired clubhouse, and soon one of Dubai's most prestigious residential addresses.
