Dubai Municipality to host conference on Documentation and Electronic Archiving

Dubai Municipality will host the third conference on Documentation and Electronic Archiving during 17 to 19 September 2005.
A galaxy of experts from around the world will attend the conference, which is designed to create a dynamic forum for exchanging experiences about knowledge management standards, policies and practices among diverse professionals coming from different sectors.
Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, has issued an administrative decree forming a preparatory committee for the conference, which will be held at the World Trade Centre.
The committee is chaired by Khalil Ali Hussain, Director of Administrative Affairs Department. It also includes Khalid Ali Bin Zayed, Director of the Department of Municipality Centres (vice-chairman of the committee), Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaffin, Director of Geographic Information System Centre, Khalid AbdulRahim Abdullah, Assistant Director of the Department of Municipality Centres, Hussain Abdullah Fardan, Head of Documentation and Information Section, Yousuf Murad Salmeen, Head of Public Relations Section, Emad Mohammed Yousuf AbuEid from the Administrative Affairs Department, Zain Al Abideen Al Syed Ahmed from the Statistics Centre and Mohammed AbdulAziz Al Shareef from the Information Technology Department (Member cum reporter).
The committee is entrusted with the task of carrying out all the preparations for hosting the conference such as preparing the agenda, exhibitions and other activities of the conference, arrangements for the delegates, and co-ordinating with other organizations.
"The area of knowledge management has great potential to become the key technology in knowledge creation and its management. They can assist in the ongoing process of economic, scientific, technological, and social development by providing and distributing effective and value-added information, contributing to the world of knowledge," said Bin Zayed, vice chairman of the Preparatory Committee.
Bin Zayed said the conference will focus on the new dimensions added to contents and records management technologies giving birth to concepts like knowledge management and information life cycle management. Also it will explore the positive initiatives currently in practice taking into consideration lessons learned, he added.
He said the conference is aimed at opening new horizons for establishing mutual cooperation between participants in the fields of Information & Knowledge Management and Decision Making Support.
It will provide awareness on latest technologies and facilitating exchange and networking of experiences in the fields of Information & Knowledge management and Decision Making Support to make the best use out of these technologies, Bin Zayed said.
He said the event will also formalize procedures to enrich opportunities and develop technical capabilities and skills among participants in the fields of Information & Knowledge management and Decision Making Support, in addition to promoting and spreading Information & Knowledge management and Decision Making Support training methodologies.
