"With this deal, Kuwait has well and truly positioned itself at the forefront of the telecommunications and information technology sector in the region by being the first country in the Middle East to grant a licence to an organization to promote Inmarsat's services," said Mr. Hamed Khaja; Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communication. "The signing of this agreement demonstrates our commitment to breaking new ground and being innovative in our approach to adopting new technologies" he added.
The deal enables the launch of Inmarsat's full range of voice and data solutions in Kuwait. Inmarsat's solutions will complement the excellent terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure in Kuwait. In particular, Regional BGAN - a lightweight mobile solution for reliable, high-speed data communications - will not only expand the availability of high-speed data communications to rural and remote Kuwait, but will also improve significantly the level of connectivity as people travel out of the country.
At the event, Samer Halawi, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at Inmarsat, congratulated all parties involved in the deal, and added: "At Inmarsat we are thrilled that Kuwait has made the groundbreaking move to be the first country in the Middle East to grant a license of this kind. We congratulate the people of Kuwait for their vision and for being the first to reach this milestone, which positions them at the forefront regionally for state-of-the-art data communications services. The deal will also be a boost for the country's economy - with Kuwait emerging as a sales hub for our solutions".
As part of its arrangement with Triband Middle East, an international distribution partner of Inmarsat, Barrak International Centre Co - an organization that specializes in general trading and contracting - will offer to customers in Kuwait and the region state-of-the-art communications services. Barrak International Centre Co was successful in the bid for the licence based on its extensive experience and understanding of the Kuwaiti market.
