The insulin pump allows people with diabetes to manage their disease on a far more personal level, as it can be adjusted to meet individual lifestyles. Insulin is administrated directly through a small plastic tube inserted under the skin, preventing imbalances in glucose levels.

CozmoŽ, which has been awarded with the US Medical Design Excellence Award, allows personalisation of various features including naming of the pump, the basal rates or meal boluses. Alarms and reminders can be programmed individually and users are given reminders to measure the blood glucose or to deliver a meal bolus. It can be programmed quickly with the CoZmanager PC Software, which is simple to set up via its integrated infrared interface.

The Deltec CozmoŽ forms part of the ground-breaking CozMore™ concept, that combines into one complete system blood glucose monitoring, insulin pump therapy and personalised data management. Recently launched into the Middle East with great success in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, CozmoŽ continues to be the product of choice for new diabetic pump users.

Smiths Medical also launched the Portex Cricothryoidotomy Kit (PCK) designed specifically for use by clinicians in civil and combat situations. Containing all the items required to establish rapid emergency airway access, the kit uses an innovative Veress needle design to confirm entry into the trachea and indicate any resulting contact with the posterior tracheal wall.

The 6mm bore Cricothyroidotomy tube enables spontaneous breathing and the Portex Soft Seal cuff secures the airway providing safe access and stability. In addition, this new device is lightweight and supplied pre-assembled in compact, robust packaging, making it ideal for inclusion in 'trauma bags'.

Smiths Medical continues to lead in the introduction of advanced medical device technology through a dedication to innovation, sophisticated manufacturing and high quality products.

Moataz Ebise, Regional Manager for the Middle East, was delighted that Smiths Medical attended Arab Health 2005. "Not only was it an opportunity to display examples from our entire product range to both new and valued existing customers, Arab Health allowed Smiths Medical to expand business in the Middle Eastern and Asian markets with the introduction of pioneering, technically-advanced medical devices."
