NEC launches the new Linux-based high density fault tolerant server in the Middle East

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, February 20 - 2005 at 15:38
  • PRESS RELEASE

NEC has announced the availability in the Middle East of a fault tolerant version of the Linux® operating system available with the NEC Express5800/320Lb-R FT Linux server.

It features the highest level of availability in the IT industry with the added benefit of lowering total cost of ownership.

Designed to support mission-critical and non-stop business operation and services that require 24-hour uptime, the NEC Express5800/320Lb-R FT Linux is the ultimate platform for uninterrupted system operation. The dual-modular hardware architecture ensures continuous system operation in the case of component failure. The NEC Fault Tolerant Linux operating system is built on the 2.4.18 Linux kernel, enabling any Linux application running on that kernel to run in fault tolerant mode with no additional software modification required.

The Express5800/320Lb-R FT Linux fault tolerant highlights include:
• No Unplanned Downtime with the NEC FT Series hardware system design
• No Data Loss with transactions maintained through redundant CPUs, memory and HDDs
• Maximum Operational Efficiency with no additional cluster administration overhead
• Easy Deployment & Administration with preloaded Linux OS and easy ESMPRO® Integrated Management

"NEC is dedicated to providing our customers with the best and most innovative technology products on the market", says Denis Bellicam, Director, Enterprise Computing Product Group, NEC Computers International, "and the introduction of the NEC Express5800/320Lb-R FT Linux is just one example of NEC's dedication. NEC is the only major enterprise server manufacturer that combines the power of fault tolerant servers with a hardened version of the Linux operating system for use in the general server market place. It is the ideal server solution for organizations looking to maximize system uptime".

More of the market is beginning to use Linux for its high availability needs through deployments in basic infrastructure and high-performance computing to a variety of database, general purpose and line of business applications. When a Linux® OS meets 99.999 % hardware availability, additional benefits of flexibility, reliability, efficiency and reduced costs come into play.

These requirements are a must in industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, telecom, finance, banking and retail where around-the-clock operation with 24x7 uninterrupted access is a must.

Speaking about the advantages of this new Linux based server, Lenia Iacovides, Managing Director of interFRONTIERS Services Ltd - the Regional Business Development Unit for NEC Computers International said: "The NEC Express 5800/320Lb-R FT Linux server enables industries in the Middle East region to deploy and administer servers easily and cost-effectively, whilst improving the level of operation and support necessary to meet and surpass their business operation goals."
