AMD names Tarek Heiba as general manager for Middle East and Africa

AMD [NYSE: AMD] today announced the appointment of Tarek Heiba as general manager for Middle East and Africa (MEA).

Tarek is based at AMD's Dubai Internet City offices and dedicated to strengthening strategic relationships and serving the unique requirements of AMD's customers, channel partners, and commercial users throughout the region.

According to Gartner, AMD's overall desktop PC Windows®-based market share in the Middle East and Africa reached 10.2% in the fourth quarter of 2004, up from 7.6% in the fourth quarter of 2003, representing year-on-year growth of 34%.*

"One of AMD's key priorities is extending its global reach to provide customer focused computing solutions to a greater portion of the world," said Pierre Brunswick, regional sales director, Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa, AMD. "By delivering regional expertise and innovative technology solutions based on products like the AMD Sempron™, AMD Athlon™ 64 and AMD Opteron™ processors, we are enabling our customers to better serve their customers. I am confident that Tarek's in-depth knowledge of the EMEA IT market and his strong relationships in the region will be great assets to AMD."

Tarek Heiba's career spans over seventeen years in the Middle Eastern IT sector and includes leadership positions at Dell, Compaq and Sun Microsystems. Most recently, Tarek was regional manager, Egypt, Cyprus & Levant, at Dell. Tarek holds a masters degree in economics with a minor in business administration from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
