DCCI discusses relations with Malaysia and Japan

Mr. Obeid Humeid Al Tayer, President of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) received Mr. Samson Baharun, Deputy Secretary General of Parliament of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development in Malaysia, in the presence of Mr. Azeri Shamsuddin, Consul-General of Malaysia in UAE and Mr. Abdulrahman Ghanem Al Mutaiwee, Director-General of DCCI.

The meeting discussed the ways of boosting bilateral economic and commercial relationships between Dubai and Malaysia along with the issues of mutual concern.

Mr. Baharun stated that Malaysia is seeking foster its economic and business relationships with the region, pointing out to many opportunities for strengthening cooperation in the fields of woods, considering the immense urban development and the wealth of Halal foods and jewelry.

Mr. Baharun is leading the Malaysian delegation participating in the Franchising Middle East (FME 2005) held at the Dubai World Trade Center, February 28th - March 2nd. He spoke on The Malaysia Franchising International Exhibition which will be held in Kuala Lampur during the period August 12nd -14th. 2oo5. He stated that the Exhibition of the year 2004 made a great success with a remarkable participation of 250 companies.

Mr. Shamsuddin highlighted the significant growth of the trade between his country, pointing out to the growth of UAE imports from Malayzia, which reached about one billion Dollar in the year 2003, and to the Malaysian participation in three exhibition in Dubai this Month.

Mr. Al Tayer emphasized the importance of consolidating the relationships with Malaysia considering its remarkable existence in Dubai market. He spoke on the high potentials available in UAE especially in the fields of foodstuff and fruits & vegetables. He assured the DCCI support the business community of Malaysia. The meeting discussed the immense development being witnessed in Dubai non-oil foreign trade thanks to the growth of its great activities in the field export and re-exports. He disclosed that the total volume of non-oil foreign trade of Dubai reached 77.5 billion Dhs in the year 2004.

Meanwhile, Mr. Abdulrahman Saif Al Ghurair, 1st Vice-President of DCCI received Mr. Keishiro Fukushima, Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The visit of the Japanese official aims at exploring the investment environment in UAE-Dubai in particular, as well as discussing the ways of consolidating the bilateral economic and commercial relationships.

Mr. Fukushima expressed the keen interest of Japan of the accelerating progress witnessed in Dubai in all fields, as well as the anticipations of the Japanese companies and corporations to invest in the region.

Mr. Al Ghurair explained that Dubai enjoys stability and security thanks to the wise guidance and support of its leadership. He added that the outcome of all of that is the free atmosphere of creating and conducting businesses as well as attracting the international companies to exploit Dubai as a regional office or a base for distributing their products and services amongst the countries of the region.

He added that signing the free trade agreements will help developing the trade with the world.
