Philips lighting the pace setter in the lighting industry
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 03 - 2005 at 12:09
- PRESS RELEASE
Philips Lighting will present a dedicated range of innovative products and developments in the lighting industry implemented in a multitude of professional applications at the Middle East Electricity Exhibition.
Philips sports lighting and projects
To highlight one of Philips Sports lighting projects, Philips developed a lighting design for the Khalifa Olympic stadium, which will be the main stadium for the Asian Games 2006, in Qatar. Khalifa Olympic Stadium will be used as main stadium (for closing ceremony as well as the finals for football and athletics) for the Asian Games 2006 in Doha, Qatar. The Asian Games is the second biggest sports event in the world with 403 events in 38 different sports, where 10,000 athletes are supposed to compete at Asiad 2006.
While developing an optimum sports lighting solution for this state-of-art stadium, appropriate consideration was given to the placement of luminaries on the canopy in order to avoid disturbing glare to the goal keeper & also to respect the day-time architectural appearance of the sophisticated architecture. The lighting solution has been realized with the innovative Philips ArenaVision luminaries, which lends daylight to the stadium after sun set and creates the perfect conditions for players, spectators and top quality TV viewing.
FOP (field of play) has been considered as sports field (football plus athletics track and field) plus the area till the first row of spectator seating. The lighting solution offers on FOP an average vertical luminance of 1400 lux towards all the four vertical planes (+/- X, +/-Y) and average vertical luminance of 1800 lux towards the main camera and over 1600 lux for other secondary cameras. This ensures high-quality color images, not only of the overall action, but also of the slow-motion replays and player close-ups, which are an important means of conveying the emotions and atmosphere in the stadium to millions of viewers watching at home.
A total number of 600 ArenaVision MVF 403 MHNSA 2000W have been used for sports lighting and another 72 of up-lighting version of ArenaVision for architectural lighting of arches and other steel structure. Sports and architectural lighting for this state-of-art stadium are consuming a total of around 1.6 mega Watt of power.
Philips lighting has traditionally had close links with the world of sports and has designed and supplied lighting system for every major sporting event since the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.
Philips led innovations; composing with light
Philips introduces LEDline2, a new lighting concept based on cutting edge LED Technology, providing designers with an additional set of tools to turn their creative vision into reality. Opening up a virtually infinite range of effects, LEDline2 is a versatile range of floodlights that allows light to fill or underline, graze or pinpoint, mark or blend. Available in four colors plus white, the linearity of LEDline2 complements the geometry of the architecture, turning surfaces into 'curtains' of light and transforming light into objects. In short, LEDline2 represents a new language in outdoor lighting.
Orchestrating the nightscape
Architectural lighting plays a central role in the way people feel about their living environment. Employed imaginatively, light can be used to reinterpret everyday city objects and buildings, elevating them from the mundane to the poetic.
By shaping new experiences and emotions, lighting can help build an inclusive, socially dynamic city. As night falls, the architecture of a town or city is expressed through light rather than structure. With the lighting designer seeking to orchestrate the nightscape in a way that resonates for citizens and visitors alike, the individual buildings become the crotchets and quavers on his score, with light creating a vivid picture. And now Philips is expanding the tonal palette with LEDline˛, a new lighting concept based on cutting-edge LED technology, providing designers with an additional set of tools to turn their creative vision into reality. Precision beam control enables the designer to generate precise blocks of light and color to highlight form and structure. Ultimately, the intensity of light will bring an entirely new and inspiring dimension to the nighttime cityscape.
Play the light
LEDline˛ offers lighting designers a virtually unlimited range of options for creating appealing light effects. For example, color contrast using a red / blue combination, transforms the floor with swathes of light. Strong clarity and continuity of color gives objects a very artistic impact.
LEDline˛: a complete range for every situation
The LEDline˛ range represents a perfect combination of high-power Luxeon™ LEDs, dedicated optics, high-quality materials and lighting electronics. The range comprises three unique models for the widest possible coverage of grazing-light applications. LEDline˛ features the latest technical innovations to facilitate installation, including an integrated power supply and all versions are dimmable as an option: with 0-10 V or DALI.
Beams
Containing high-power Luxeon™ LEDs, the LEDline˛ range features precise light distribution, uniform illuminance, and is ideal for scene setting. The unique collimating optic specific to LEDline˛ generates unrivalled power, enabling the designer to create a strong, continuous wash of light. To further extend the application possibilities, the LEDline˛ family includes a selection of secondary optic that widens the beam.
Discreet presence
With its smooth, clean product architecture, LEDline˛ has been designed to blend into its surroundings with minimal visual disturbance. As the LEDline˛ module is available in different lengths, the luminaire installation can be tailored exactly to the architectural structure. The discreet design puts the focus squarely on the lighting solution.
