- United Arab Emirates: Monday, March 07 - 2005 at 16:46
- PRESS RELEASE
The CABSAT 2005 business fair in Dubai will see the official launch of DigitalSkys' unique business plan, which takes an array of technologically-advanced satellite-based technologies combined with a strong customer-service approach to create an unbeatable telecommunications product.
"We are very excited about the launch of DigitalSkys, as we see it as a major leap towards breaking the digital divide in the Middle East, Africa and beyond. Our new WiMAX technology will be sure to have a big impact on the market, which is starving for cost effective and reliable broadband wireless access," said Charles D'Alberto - CEO, DigitalSkys.
Directed by a team of experienced business leaders and investors from Australia, Canada, South Africa, and UAE, the company is looking to carve out a major place for itself in the fastgrowing wireless satellite telecommunications sector expected to be worth as much as $5 billion globally within four years.
Among the technologies DigitalSkys will use to facilitate its so-called "last mile" service ("last mile" refers to the final link between any kind of communications network and the client) are the VSAT platform that uses multiple satellites that combine to offer high-quality data, video, and voice transmissions between almost any two points on the planet; cutting-edge Wi-Fi radios that deliver wireless connectivity over substantial areas and even while on the move; and WiMAX, which extends the range of wireless connectivity as far as 50 kilometers (31 miles). There are dozens of applications for these technologies that include Internet telephony, video conferencing, long-distance vehicle tracking, and the development of customer service centers and help desks, and web-based financial services.
After in-depth studies of the local and regional market, DigitalSkys expects its innovative line of products to see fast growth starting almost immediately. The company will start with a limited number of pilot projects for the fixed wireless services -- Wi-Fi and WiMAX -- and for the VSAT protocols. After modest growth over the first part of the year, the company expects to see its customer base expand rapidly toward the end of 2005, with the fast growth to continuing into 2006 and beyond.
