Students in the UAE receive HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Awards

HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Awards were presented to students in the UAE at an award ceremony held at the Knowledge Village Courtyard in Dubai on Tuesday 8 March.

The awards were a joint collaboration between HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

University of Cambridge International Examinations is at the forefront of global assessment and one of the world's leading providers of international qualifications. CIE has been operating in the UAE for many years and is committed to developing education through its growing network of Centres. HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority shares CIE's passion for education and for the creation of a true knowledge society and has kindly given his support to the awards.

HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Awards recognise those students in the UAE who achieved outstanding examination results in Cambridge IGCSE, AS Level and A Level June 2004 examinations, students who have achieved academically whilst overcoming significant personal challenges and those who have contributed significantly to their school and local community. Inspirational teacher awards recognized three teachers hard work and efforts. The British Council UAE presented a special award to two students who had achieved a high level of academic performance combined with outstanding contributions to the community. The British Council award provides financial and travel assistance for a five-day, 'Experience UK' trip - a British Council initiative providing students from all over the world with the opportunity to enjoy a variety of academic, social and travel experiences in the UK.

Two ICT awards were given this year, the ICT student award recognized the two highest achieving students in the UAE and the ICT School Award honouring the school that demonstrated the most innovative use of ICT within their teaching. HP has sponsored this award: "HP is committed to working with governments and educational institutes in local markets so as to drive e-learning and knowledge transfer. As part of its ongoing commitment to revolutionize learning for all, HP has delivered to the academic arena a full host of end-to-end solutions designed to reshape the way in which future generations acquire information and excel in a controlled and dynamic environment. In the Middle East, HP has implemented technology solutions on various academic levels thus providing students with the latest top-notch ICT skills required to be a part of a thriving economy."

This year's ceremony also saw the top in the World Awards to those students from UAE who have gained the highest mark in the world in an IGCSE, AS or A Level subject.

The ceremony at the Knowledge Village Courtyard was well attended with many distinguished guests. HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum kindly presented the awards alongside Christine Caley, Director of Public Education, William Bickerdike, Regional Manager for the Middle East and North Africa and Mrs Jo Maher Director for the British Council UAE.
