  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, March 09 - 2005 at 15:09
  • PRESS RELEASE

Emirates Cable TV and Multimedia (E-Vision) today announced at CABSAT 2005 it had teamed up with Thomson, the leading global entertainment technology provider, to offer superior quality viewing through its cable system.

The partnership will allow E-Vision to employ Thomson's technology to deliver over its cable network High Definition Television (HDTV) content, which is as close to life-like as television can be.

E-Vision is the first entertainment provider in the Middle East to use this technology. It is also the only operator in the region whose cable network is able to receive and transmit HDTV content over its cable network.

This network capability was demonstrated through the use of the new Thomson HD cable set-top box, the DC1500 HD and high definition content today. The DC1500 HD supports all display modes with interlace and progressive scan modes and resolutions from 576 to 1080 lines for superior image quality.

The HDTV picture and sound quality on the one of the two JVC plasma television sets used in the demonstration was clearly superior to standard digital content.

At today's press conference, Humaid Rashid Sahoo, E-Vision's Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are committed to delivering the very best entertainment to our customers and will use the latest technology available where this enhances the quality of what we offer."

"Through its HD and triple play offering, Thomson is uniquely positioned to provide the very cutting-edge technology to which Humaid Rashid Sahoo has referred" said Frederic Kurkjian, Vice President, worldwide Cable Business Unit within the Access Platforms and Gateways division of Thomson. "we are very delighted to be showcasing with E-Vision today our digital equipment and solutions portofolio which provides unparalleled HDTV viewing experience in terms of image quality and content delivery" he added.

HDTV technology will bring the end user the best picture quality and resolution in order to take advantage of the new type of larger flat screens (Plasma, LCD, DLP, etc.) which are all ready for HDTV.

Thomson is a major player in the field of HD technology. It is involved in every stage of the high definition production and distribution chain, and provides an array of HD equipment and services for its media and entertainment customers.
